ARCADIS Ms. Lisa Medina
June 22, 2012
used instead of bentonite because the seal-interval is in the vadose zone and
bentonite will potentially dry and crack becoming ineffectual. A traffic rated 12-inch
diameter flush mounted well box will be installed in concrete.
4.5.4 Waste Disposal
Soil cuttings, drilling fluids, purge water, decontamination water and personal
protective equipment(PPE) generated during drilling operations will be containerized
in Department of Transportation (DOT)-approved 55-gallon drums and temporarily
stored on-site pending characterization and disposal. Upon characterization, wastes
will be transported by a disposal contractor to an appropriate disposal or treatment
facility.
5.0 SVE Pilot Test
The proposed monitoring point (SVE-2) and existing site well MW-4R (see Figure 2)
will be used as observation points during the pilot test to assess the radius of
influence(ROI) of the SVE well (SVE-1). The well casing of the observation wells will
be sealed and equipped with a pressure gauge to measure the induced soil vacuum.
The pilot test will be conducted to collect the following data:
• Design extraction vacuum
• Vapor concentrations and temperature
• Vacuum ROI
5.1 Pilot Test Equipment
The pilot test will be conducted using mobile trailer-mounted standard equipment that
will be removed at the conclusion of the testing period. The SVE system will consist
of piping/hosing located between the wellhead and a blower to induce a vacuum
within the extraction well. The off-gas vapors will be treated through either vapor
phase granular activated carbon or by thermal/catalytic oxidation.
5.2 Pilot Test Procedures
The pilot test will consist of two phases as described below.
CPage'
GVpydENV•BNLAN595KDYNeivLWIWMR•=EOMtmlw Mnn1CF p595120 2W-SVEPPdTWWP0.
