S E C O R - -
Groundwater Sampling Procedures
The sampling procedure for the groundwater monitor wells consists of measuring the water level, and
checking for the presence of separate-phase hydrocarbons (SPH), using either an electronic indicator and
a clear Teflon@ bailer or an oil-water interface probe. The well will be purged using a submersible pump,
centrifugal pump, gas displacement pump, or clean bailer. The equipment and purging method used for
the sampling event will be noted on the field data sheets and included in the assessment report. During
purging, temperature, pH, and electrical conductivity will be monitored in order to document that these
parameters were stable prior to collecting samples. Groundwater samples will be collected using a
Teflon@ bailer, placed into appropriate EPA-approved containers, labeled, logged onto a chain-of-custody
document, and transported on ice to a California state-certified laboratory.
Laboratory Procedures
Selected soil samples will be analyzed for the presence of TPHg, BTEX, and fuel oxygenates by EPA
Method 82608. Four samples collected from the stockpiled soil will be composited at the laboratory, and
analyzed for the presence of TPHg, BTEX, MtBE by EPA Method 82608, and total lead by EPA Method
60108.
Groundwater samples will be collected following well development, and analyzed for the presence of
TPHg, BTEX, and fuel oxygenates MtBE, EtBE, TBA, TAME, DIPE, 1,2-DCA, EDB, and ethanol by EPA
Method 8260B.
Soil Cuttings and Purge Water
Soil cuttings generated during drilling operations will be stored on and wrapped in plastic sheeting. Water
generated during equipment cleaning will be stored in 55-gallon drums onsite pending characterization.
The soil and water will be removed from the site by a licensed disposal contractor and transported to an
appropriate disposal or treatment facility for proper disposal.
