Supplemental Preliminary Site Investigation for State Route 99/Hammer Lane Project No. H2O2
to Mark Thomas & Co., Inc. November 17, 1999
each site, two borings were drilled and sampled to minimum depths of 21.5 feet at opposite
ends of the prior tank locations. A third boring, situated near the approximate center of the
prior tank locations, was drilled and sampled until ground water was encountered. A ground
water grab sample was retrieved from the deeper boring for laboratory analysis. Cuttings were
barreled and stored on-site for disposal following analyses.
3) Soil cuttings were screened with a Photo Ionization Detector (PID) for the presence_of
hydrocarbons. Selected samples from each boring were tested for hydrocarbons using EPA
Test Methods 8015 Modified and 8020 Modified. One ground water sample from each site
was also tested for hydrocarbons.
4) Prepared this report of our findings, test results, and recommendations for further analyses.
SITE INVESTIGATIONS
The Auto Factory (Former Texaco Station)
5942 North Highway 99 East Frontage Road, Stockton, California 95212
Site Description
The Auto Factory site is located south of Hammer Lane, adjacent to the west side of North Highway
99 East Frontage Road between Denny Boys restaurant and Der Weinerschnitzel restaurant (Figure
2, Site Map). The site is currently being utilized as an automobile sales lot. The existing structure
appears to be that of a former service station. The site is enclosed by an iron fence on the north, east
and south sides and a chain-link fence to the rear. The eastern portion of the site, between the
roadway and the existing structure, is paved with asphaltic concrete and Portland cement concrete.
Parked automobiles are present over the majority of the east portion of the site. The west (rear)
portion of the site is generally gravel and/or grass-covered, with miscellaneous equipment and
vehicles.
Site Investigation
For the current investigation, Espana Geotechnical Consulting completed soil borings at three selected
locations within the former underground storage tank facility on October 14, 15 and 18, 1999(Figure
3, Boring Location Map). The location of the former underground storage tank facility was provided
to us in a letter report by Pacific Environmental Group, Inc, dated May 24, 1999, which included a
site map showing the former tank locations. This report indicated that the three 8,000 gallon tanks
were removed from this location in December, 1980. However, this report also indicated that no soil
or ground water testing was performed at the time of tank removal.
Two of the borings were performed at opposite ends of the former tank pit area(north and south sides)
and were drilled to depths of 21.5 feet and 26.5 feet. A third boring was advanced in the approximate
center of the former tank pit area and drilled to a depth of 66 feet. Ground water was encountered at
2
V ESPANA GEOTECHNICAL CONSULTING
