In accor- <br /> dance with sample custody protocol, the laboratory will perform the <br /> following operations for sample custody: { <br /> * Laboratory Receipt of Samples. <br /> • Pre-Analysis Storage/Preservation. <br /> • Post-Analysis Storage, <br /> 2,3,1 Laboratory Receipt of;Sapnples <br /> Once samples are received, the sample casLodian will inape; t the condi- <br /> tion of the samples, compare the information!on the sample labels <br /> against the Chain of Custody and Sample Identification Record form, <br /> and enter a laboratory control number into the;laboratory's computer <br /> inventory/tracking system. The laboratory's sample custodian will I <br /> maintain Custody of the samples until they are 'assigned Lo an analyst <br /> for analysis. <br /> If the sample custodian judges sample custody to be invalid, the labora- <br /> tory will initiate a nonconformance report. The laboratory will advise <br /> ERM-West fwmediately and will not analyze the sample(s) unless <br /> ERM-West so authorizes. IRM-West will decide the fate of the sam- <br /> ples) in question and sign the nonconformance report, Indicating the <br /> reason for the dislinsition. The sample(s) will either be processed "as <br /> is" with custody failure noted along with the analytical data, or rejected <br /> w1th biunpling rescheduled, if necessary. <br /> Each time custody of the sample(s) changes, the.'ILt:w sample custodian <br /> will sign the Chain of Custody and Sample Identification Record form <br /> and note the date. On sample destruction or disposal, the responsible <br /> custodian will coniplcte the Chain of Custody and Sample Identifi- <br /> cation Record form, file a copy, and send a copy to ERM-West. <br /> i <br /> 2.3.2 Pre-Analysts StoragelPreservation <br /> ,The laboratory employs sample storage and preservation procedures <br /> appropriate for the sample matrix. The procedures: <br /> • Retard hydrolysis of chemical compounds and complexes. <br /> Reduce :adsorption effects. <br /> 2-4 <br />
