r. <br /> ENVI ;JUN 8 2000 <br /> rVMEW <br /> P <br /> RA41T ,, I � HEALTH <br /> WATER QUALITY INVESTIGATION WORK PLAN VICc,-3 <br /> Escalon Cellars <br /> Canandaigua Wine Company <br /> 21801 Highway 120 <br /> Escalon, California <br /> 1.0 INTRODUCTION <br /> This work plan has been prepared to investigate the occurrence oftrichlorofluoromethane(Freon 11) <br /> in ground water and determine whether ground water in the vicinity of the winery and or disposal <br /> fields has been impacted by chloroform or methylene chloride at Escalon Cellars,Canandaigua Wine <br /> Company. The Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board(CVRWQCB) requested this <br /> work plan in a Notice of Violation issued to Escalon Cellars on December 9, 1999. <br /> This work plan was prepared by the Environmental and Geological Services Division of The <br /> Twining Laboratories, Inc. (Twining), located in Fresno, California. The preparation of this work <br /> plan was authorized by Mr. Rick Dyer, Plant Maintenance Coordinator, Escalon Cellars, <br /> Canandaigua Wine. Co. <br /> 2.0 BACKGROUND <br /> A brief description of the project is summarized in the following subsections. <br /> 2.1 Site Description <br /> The site is located at 21801 Highway 120,approximately two miles west of Escalon,California. The <br /> site is located in Section 36 of Township 2 South Range 8 East, Mount Diablo Base and Meridan. <br /> Drawing 1 is a site location map. The site is located on the north site of Highway 120, east of Van <br /> Allen Rd. and west of Sexton Rd. The site consists of a winery and approximately 98 acres of <br /> wastewater disposal fields. <br /> 2.2 Project History <br /> It is our understanding that a winery has occupied the site since at least the 1920's. The Escalon <br /> Cellars Winery was purchased by Canandaigua Winery Company(Canandaigua)from Heublein Inc. <br /> in 1994. Heublein submitted a Report of Waste Discharge, dated June 29, 1990 and a Operations <br /> and Maintenance Plan dated June 14, 1991. Waste Discharge Requirement No. 91-223 were <br /> November 26, 1991 and replace Order No. 86-003 which expired on January 1, 1991. <br /> The winery use four wells to supply water for winery operations. No drillers logs have been located <br /> for the four wells. The wells are believed to be greater that 120 feet. The permanent pumps are <br />
