Groundwater Sampling ana Analysis Plan
Former Texaco Service Station
Chevron Site ID 309075
January 14, 2011
additional control may be necessary. Surrogate spike compounds will be selected utilizing the
guidance provided in the analytical methods.
5.3 SAMPLE PACKING AND SHIPPING PROCEDURES
A The following sections discuss the proper sample labeling, chain-of-custody (COC), sample
packing and shipping procedures.
5.3.1 Sample Labeling
A waterproof sample label will be affixed to all sample bottles for proper identification. An
indelible ink pen/marker will be used to write the sample information on the label. The
information on the sample label will be duplicated on the COC form as described in the following
section.
5.3.2 Sample Custody
Procedures to ensure the custody and integrity of the samples begin at the time of sampling and
continue through transport, sample receipt, preparation, analysis and storage, data generation
and reporting, and sample disposal. Records concerning the custody and condition of the
samples are maintained in field and laboratory records. All samples will be uniquely identified,
labeled, and documented in the field at the time of collection and recorded on the COC form.
5.3.3 Packing and Shipping
Subsequent to collection, samples will be packed on ice, cooled to approximately 4 degrees
Celsius (°C) and shipped under appropriate COC protocols for analysis. When, in the judgment
of the laboratory, the temperature of the samples upon receipt may have affected the stability of
the analytes of interest, the problem will be documented in laboratory records and discussed
with ARCADIS personnel. The resolution of the problem will also be documented.
5.4 WASTE DISPOSAL
Site cleanup associated with the sampling event will be performed after monitoring and
sampling activities at each well location has been completed and prior to moving any equipment
to the next well location. Clothing, gloves, boot covers, and rags, which may be used during the
field activities (as warranted), will be disposed of in onsite receptacles (if present) or
containerized in plastic garbage bags and transported offsite for disposal. Purge water and
equipment decontamination water generated during the sampling event will be collected by G-R,
transported by G-R to their temporary storage facility in Dublin, California and staged until it can
be properly disposed of by Integrated Wastestream Management, Inc. (IWM).
\\CA5FP\Data\Hproject\ENV\CHEVRON\309075\6 Deliverables\Work Plan\SAP\309075_SAP_6671110950.doc 9
