Air monitoring is not planed initially, but might be necessary if field conditions are such that exposure to dust from site soils would be unavoidable. The upgrade or downgrade of protective equipment and site monitoring will be based on the actions levels in section 6.2.1, or contingency procedures in section 7.0. 6.0 SITE SAFETY PROCEDURES 6.1 SITE ENTRY PROCEDURES It will be necessary for the field team to control access to the work area, and f restrict unauthorized persons from entering. Due to the general lack of foot traffic in the +� project area, anticipated brief duration of soil handling at each location, and relatively low perceived hazard, physical marking of the restricted area is not expected to be necessary. At each sampling location, the SSO will evaluate specific existing conditions (presence of 'r pedestrians, distance to structures, dust potential, etc.), designate an exclusion zone around the work area, and evaluate if traffic cones, highly visible tape, and/or other measures to mark the exclusion zone are necessary. Only persons who meet the safety training, personal protective equipment and other requirements of this Health and Safety Plan will be allowed in the exclusion zone area. It is the responsibility of all site personnel to aid in enforcing the exclusion zone. Before the start of fieldwork activities, the SSO will also perform the following steps as necessary: Locate the nearest telephone and post the emergency telephone numbers. Identify the locations of the fire extinguisher, emergency eyewash, first aid kit, restrooms, and rest areas. 6.2 AIR MONITORING REQUIREMENTS Air monitoring is not expected to be necessary. If site conditions at the time of field work are such that exposure to dust from the site cannot be avoided, work is to be stopped and all personnel are to move to a location up-wind of the dust source until either: 1) the dust source is eliminated and not likely to recur during the work period; or 2) air monitoring is implemented and respiratory protection added to the PPE. 4. 6.3 WORK LIMITATIONS Work limitations include the following: If strong odors, discolored soil, fibrous debris, or other evidence of unexpected contaminants are observed, work at that location should be stopped and the LIS 6
