The subject well is
located near the southwest corner of Robinhood Drive and Pacific Avenue (see Figure 1). For
purposes of this letter, we refer to this well as "the Well."
The San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Environmental Health Division (Count ) is
aware that a former Unocal site located in close proximity to the Well (see Figure 2) is known
to be contaminated with fuel hydrocarbons. Montgomery Ward has no objection to completing
this work. However, it is Montgomery Ward's position that Unocal should, at a minin um,
share in the costs associated with completing the sampling and testing of the Well. There ore,
Montgomery Ward is requesting that the County notify Unocal in writing that it should co 1tact
Montgomery Ward in order to participate in the sampling and testing of the Well.
On January 3, 1997, Environmental Audit, Inc. (EAI) forwarded a letter to the Co lege
requesting additional information on the Well and any other wells under College cor trol.
These data, in conjunction with the results of testing a ground water sample from the ell,
will be submitted to the County as soon as they become available. EAI believes that this
information will include the additional information requested by the County in its January 9,
1997 letter.
As requested, the ground water sample collected from the Well will be tested for total
petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline by modified EPA Method 8015, and aromatic
hydrocarbons (including methyl tertiary butyl ether) and halogenated volatile organics. EAI
proposes to use EPA Method 8260 for the aromatic hydrocarbons and halogenated vo atile
organics testing.
PLANNING,ENVIRONMENTALANALYSES AND
HAZARDOUS SUBSTANCES MANAGEMENTAND REMEDIATION
