In order to evaluate the impact, if any, upon the well and the
groundwater hydraulic gradient, PHS-EHD will require some additional information.
The irrigation well is to be sampled for petroleum constituents known to be of concern
to this site's investigation. The minimum analyses should include Total Petroleum
Hydrocarbons as Gasoline by EPA Method 8015m, Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene,
and Xylene by EPA Method 8020, Methyl-Tert Butyl Ether (MTBE) by EPA Method
8020A (or 8021 B), and Halogenated Volatile Organics by EPA Method 601.
Due to a low occurrence of false positives for the MTBE 8020A (or 8021 B) analysis, it
is recommended that any positive results from this analysis be analyzed by 8240 (or
8260A) to verify the correct identification of MTBE.
In the report of the laboratory analyses that shall be submitted to PHS-EHD, please
include verification that this is the only well at DELTA and provide an identification
name or number to it and any other wells on DELTA's campus. An accurate map
showing the exact location(s) of any/all well(s) should be included also.
If at all possible, PHS-EHD would like to know the exact months/times that this well
operates. In order to establish the "native" groundwater gradient and rate at which the
groundwater flows, it is important that additional groundwater monitoring be conducted
at thirty-one (31) day intervals for at least three consecutive months when the well's
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
