Once again, I would like to reiterate that when the site was turned over to
us, there were no markings for any wells, nor precautions taken for wells that
might have been buried. The wells we discovered during landscaping were
buried, and we took precautions immediately to protect them. I have no
knowledge of any other remaining wells. I assume that when the stockpiled
dirt was cleaned from the lot, the wells were destroyed.
I met with Max to get his recollections regarding the wells, but he does not
recall any of the wells mentioned in your memo, nor does he remember the
contractor stating that they might have hit or uncovered any wells.
I would also like to state that the wells we did find were uncapped and some
were filled with dirt. We capped the wells, and a landscape valve box was put
over them for protection.
/drl
b: \drl-#2\robert\unocal.917
Printed: September 17, 1992 Page 2
