ENVIRONMENTAL AUDIT, INC.
1000-A ORTEGA WAY • PLACENTIA, CA 92870-7162
714/632-8521 FAX: 71'4163Z-6754 1. 4
SENT BY FACSIMILE
9162SS-3164
AND U.S. MAIL
November 2 7, 2000
EAI Project ND. 1232
Mr. Marty Hartzell
California Regional Water Quality Control Board
Central Coast Region
3443 Routier Road, Suite A
Sacramento, CA 95827-3003
SUBJECT: STATUS REPORT AND REQUEST FOR TIME EXTENSION
Cleanup and Abatement Order No. 5-00-707
Montgomery Ward Auto Service Center and
Former Unocal Site
5400 and
5600 Pacific Avenue, Stockton, California
Dear Mr. Hartzell:
Between November 13 and 15, 2000, the CPT borings around the Robinhood Irrigat on Well
(RIW) were completed, and the test boring work for replacement of the RIW was completed
between November 13 and 22, 2000. The results of analytical testing of discrete soil and discrete
ground water samples from the CPT borings should provide sufficient data to define the lateral
and vertical extent of impact around the RIW. These data in turn will be used to detern ine what
additional work is required to determine the vertical extent of ground water impact be ieath the
Wards and Unocal sites.
Cleanup and Abatement Order No. 5-00-707 (CAO), page 5, item 9, requires th a Final
Remediation Plan for the cleanup of soil and ground water at the former Unocal site be ubmitted
by December 1, 2000. Analytical data from the CPT borings will not be available until the week
of November 27, 2000, and these data must be reviewed and evaluated to determine what
additional work is required at the Unocal site, before a Remediation Plan for the Unocal site can
be prepared. Therefore, it is requested that the date for submittal of the Remediation Plan for the
Unocal site be extended to February 15, 2001.
The CAO, page 6, item 10, also requires the construction and operation of a remedial ystem on
the Unocal site by January 26, 2001. For the same reasons listed above, we are requ sting that
this date be extended to April 15, 2001.
PLANNING,ENVIRONMENTAL ANALYSES AND
HAZARDOUS SUBSTANCES MANAGEMENT AND REMEDIATION
