Hi Josh, •
thanks for the schedule. Alternative A would be best for us. I will mark my calendar.
Unfortunately this commingled plume site has a Cleanup and Abatement Order (CAO), which
complicates your request for a No Further Action Required
(NFAR) letter prior to well abandonment. Management has stated that the CAO will not be rescinded
until wells are properly destroyed. And rescinding the CAO is accomplished through a paragraph in
the NFAR letter.
Thanks.
Jim Barton
>>> Josh Ewert <ewert@geoconinc.com> 10/4/2011 10:39 AM >>>
Hi Jim,
Unfortunately, getting the wells destroyed prior to October 14th is not possible. County inspectors are
completely booked up until October 31 st.
Additionally, the earliest that the drilling company can start is November 14th. I also have to take into
account that we'll be working in a mall parking lot which means the clients understandably won't let
us work between the Thanksgiving and New Years. Right now, the options that I'm looking at are as
follows:
A) Start on November 14th, get as much of the work done as possible until Thanksgiving Eve and
then pick up where we left off after New Years or
B) Start after New Years and work continuously until finished.
Both of these are doable but for logistical reasons I am leaning toward starting after New Years. Still,
I'd like to hear your thoughts about scheduling. I'd also like to find out what the possibility is of the
Regional Board issuing the NFA prior to completing the well abandonment. Is that something you'd
consider and would starting before the holidays have any impact on went the NFA is issued?
Thanks,
-Josh Ewert I Senior Staff Geologist
Geocon Consultants, Inc.
3160 Gold Valley Drive Suite 800, Rancho Cordova, CA 95742
Tel 916.852.9118 Fax 916.852.9132
www.geoconinc.com
-----Original Message-----
From: Jim Barton [mailto:jbarton@waterboards.ca.gov]
Sent: Monday, October 03, 2011 3:09 PM
To: Josh Ewert
Subject: Well Destruction Schedule, 5400-5606 Pacific Ave., Stockton, San Joaquin Co.
Hi Josh,
Brenda Evans at AECOM said that you are the contact for the well destructions at the UNOCAL /
WARDS commingled plume located at the above addresses. Please provide a schedule for the wells
destruction by 14 October 2011. Thanks.
Jim Barton
James L.L. Barton, P.G.
Engineering Geologist
2
