Hall; dginter@dbsr.com; Cori Condon; Dan Watts
Subject: Status Report- CAO No. 5-00-707
Based on the conference call of August 30, 2001, EAI will begin preparation of the drawings and submit as soon
as possible the permit applications required to tie-in certain Unocal wells to the Wards remediation system as
outlined in the RAP and approved by the RWQCB. We will tie-in to the system at the remediation compounds
current location on the Wards site.
GHH Engineering is working with Stone Brothers to determine a new remediation compound location. The
existing remediation compound will ultimately be relocated to a new location selected by Stone Brothers. Stone
Brothers will be responsible for relocating the compound and remediation equipment.
The UST Cleanup Fund (Bob Trommer)called EAI on August 30, 2001, after the conference call, to discuss the
cost pre-approval request submitted on August 13, 2001,for the installation of additional monitoring and
remediation wells requested and approved by the RWQCB on August 6, 2001. The UST Cleanup Fund indicated
that it will not approve, at this point in time, the costs associated with the installation of three biosparging wells
near the former RIW. It is EAI's understanding that the UST Cleanup Fund desires additional monitoring results
for existing ground water wells in this area of the project, before determining whether remediation of ground water
in this area of the project is warranted.
The UST Cleanup Fund requested that a revised cost estimate, excluding the costs associated with the three
biosparging wells, be submitted. A revised cost estimated was submitted (faxed and mailed)this morning
(September 4, 2001)to the UST Cleanup Fund.
Based on discussions with Bob Trommer on August 30, 2001, the UST Cleanup Fund had no objections to the
other wells required by the RWQCB in its August 6, 2001 letter. Therefore, on August 31, 2001, EAI forwarded
permit applications to San Joaquin County PHS-EHD to install these wells. The goal is to attempt to install these
wells by no later than September 21, 2001, so that they can be sampled as part of the quarterly monitoring
schedule for the week of September 24, 2001.
Comments to the Siegfried Engineering"Preliminary Engineering Report"dated August 22, 2001, on alternate
Delta College well sites, are due by September 6, 2001.
Please call if you have any questions.
Steve
(714)632-8521, ext. 224
9/5/01
