' Health and Safety Plan <br /> Cleanup and Abatement Order No 5-00-707 EAI Pro ect No 1232 <br /> 5.0 DRILLING SAFETY <br /> The drilling contractor is responsible for drill rig maintenance and safety The following <br /> information provides general guidelines for safe drill rig operation <br /> • Before moving a drill rig off-road, pay particular attention to obstacles in the route of <br /> travel It is wise to walk the route of travel first <br />' • Be sure that all tools and supplies located on the drill rig are properly secure prior to <br /> movement <br />' • Always check the brakes of a drill rig carrier before traveling, particularly on rough, <br /> uneven, or hilly ground <br /> O Discharge all passengers before moving a drill rig on rough or hilly terrain <br />' • Never travel off-road with the mast (derrick) of the drill rig in the raised or partially <br /> raised position <br /> * Have an assistant guide the driver when in close proximity to hazards or when clearance <br /> is at a minimum <br /> • Always consider overhead lines to be live and dangerous <br /> • Never operate a drill rig within 15 feet of overhead lines, unless special permission <br /> from the utility company has been obtained and the power to the lines has been <br /> terminated <br /> • Clear the drilling area, to the degree feasible, to accommodate the drill rig and supplies, <br /> and to provide a safe working area <br /> • Ensure that proper housekeeping is maintained around and on the drill rig Tools <br /> should be maintained in a manner that permits for convenient access but also provides <br /> for safety <br /> • Keep platforms and walkways free from obstructions and excess grease or oil that could <br /> cause a surface to become slick and dangerous <br /> • Watch for slippery ground when mounting/dismounting platforms <br /> 1 .
