' Corrective Action Plan
Montgomery Ward Auto Service Center, Stockton, CA
' 5.0 REMEDIAL ACTION OBJECTIVES
The objectives of the remedial action are to reduce the petroleum hydrocarbons present in
soil and ground water beneath the Montgomery Ward Site to levels acceptable to the
' County
5.1 Proposed Soil Cleanup Levels
The proposed cleanup levels for soil are as follows 1) 1,000 ppm of TPH-G as detected
by modified EPA Method 8015, and 2) BTEX with a cumulative total of 20 ppm with the
benzene concentration not exceeding 5 ppm
' If testing demonstrates that the target cleanup levels can not be achieved, i e , asymptotic
levels are reached before cleanup goals, then Montgomery Ward will contact the County to
' discuss closure of the Montgomery Ward Site at concentrations above the proposed target
cleanup levels
' 5.2 Proposed Ground Water Cleanup Levels
Ground water cleanup levels are difficult to propose for this site due to the interaction of
the plume from the Former Unocal Site Any progress iii ground water remediation at the
Montgomery Ward Site will be influenced by contaminant migration from the Former
Unocal Site
It is proposed to track the progress of ground water remediation and continue treatment
until an 80% reduction in the maximum contaminant concentrations detected in ground
water samples collected from the Montgomery Ward Site wells is achieved, or until
asymptotic levels are reached, which ever is greater Based on an 80% reduction, the
cleanup levels are as follows
Constituent Max Concentration Cleanup Level
' TPH-G 130,000 ppb 26,000 ppb
Benzene 17,000 ppb 3,400 ppb
1 Toluene 24,000 ppb 4,800 ppb
Ethylbenzene 4,190 ppb 838 Ppb
Total Xylenes 22,390 ppb 4,478 ppb
' Once cleanup goals are attained, the treatment system will be deactivated to test for
"Rebound" If significant rebound occurs more than twice after the soil cleanup objectives
listed above have been achieved, this would indicate the continued influence of
contamination from the upgradient source At this point in time the system will be
permanently deactn atcd
Protect No 1232 - 10 -
SAB
0 -SAB WORD InXAP
