SOIL VAPOR EXTRACTION PILOT STUDY REPORT <br /> Mont orrery Ward Auto Service Center San Joaquin County <br /> 52.01 .if,Avenue Stockton CA Public Health Services Department <br /> Site Code 2163 <br /> 1.0 INTRODUCTION <br /> Environmental Audit, Inc (EAI) was retained by Montgomery Ward & Co Incorporated <br /> (Montgomery Ward) to conduct a soil vapor extraction (SVE) pilot study at the Montgomery <br /> Ward Auto Service Center facility, 5400 Pacific Avenue, Stockton, California (Montgomery <br /> Ward site) (see Figure 1) EAI completed the pilot study during November 11 to November <br /> 21, 1996 <br />' This report documents the scope of work performed as part of the pilot study and presents the <br /> results, conclusions and recommendations from this study Specifically, this report provides a <br /> feasibility study for two options of remediation for the facility and recommends soil vapor <br />' extraction as the most feasible method of remediation for the site <br /> This section presents the objectives of the study, lists the various sections of this report and <br />' documents Montgomery Ward's intentions regarding ground water remediation at this site <br /> The objectives of the pilot study were as follows <br />' ■ Fill gaps in the soil plume delineation, <br /> ■ Obtain site specific data for the design and implementation of a full-scale vapor <br /> extraction system, <br /> ■ Evaluate the effectiveness of air sparging for possible remediation of ground water, <br /> ■ Perform a feasibility study to compare vapor extraction to one other method of <br /> remediation at the site, and <br /> ■ Evaluate anticipated time required for remediation efforts <br /> This report includes the following sections <br /> Section 1 Introduction <br /> Section 2 Background <br /> Section 3 Permitting <br /> Section 4 Design of Pilot Remediation Test/Air Sparging Test <br /> Section 5 Installation of Pilot VES and Air Sparging System <br /> Section 6 Soil Characterization <br /> Section 7 VES and Air Sparging Pilot Tests <br /> I Section S Assessment of Remedial Parameters <br /> Section 9 Feasibility Study <br /> Section 10 Conclusions <br /> Section 11 Recommendations <br /> Section 12 Limitations <br /> Section 13 Montgomery Ward Certification <br /> ISection 14 References <br /> It is Montgomery Ward's intention to complete soil remediation measures prior to addressing <br /> ground water The source of ground water contamination beneath the Montgomery Ward site <br /> has not been clearly defined The ground water data available for the Unocal site, located <br /> across the street from the Montgomery Ward site (see Figure 1), suggests that releases from <br /> the Unocal site may have impacted the Montgomery Ward site Therefore, any ground water <br /> Project No 1232 - 1 - ENVIRONMENTAL AUDIT, INC <br />
