SOIL VAPOR EXTRACTION PILOT STUDY WORK PLAN San Joaquin County <br /> Montgomery Ward Auto Service Center Public Health Services Department <br /> 5400 Pacific Avenue,Stockton,CA Site Code 2163 <br /> I <br /> ■ Soil samples at 15 and 25 feet bgs at SP-4 and SP-5 <br />' These soil samples will be tested for total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPH-G) by <br /> modified EPA Method 8015, and benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes (BTEX) and <br /> methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) by EPA Method 8020 If MTBE is detected by Method <br />' 8020, a duplicate sample will be tested by EPA Method 8260 for confirmation All testing <br /> will be completed by a state of California certified hazardous waste testing laboratory The <br /> laboratory will be certified for all tests that are part of the study <br />' 3 4 3 Installation Of Fuel And Utility Services <br /> A separate utility pole for supplying electric power to the remediation system will be installed <br />' at the Montgomery Ward site This will ensure that the power supply to the building at the <br /> Montgomery Ward site is not interrupted System dedicated gas and water supplies also will <br /> be installed Depending on availability and logistics, the current pilot test may be operated <br />' with existing utility sources or other temporary utility sources In that case, the separate utility <br /> pole and dedicated gas and water supplies will be installed prior to the final remediation <br /> program <br /> 3 4 4 Installation Of Vapor Extraction And Treatment Unit <br /> A Thermal Oxidizer is proposed to be used as the vapor extraction and treatment unit for the <br /> pilot study Detail specifications of the unit are provided in Appendix D Important <br /> specifications are as follows <br /> Vacuum Pump 7 5 HP <br /> Air-flow rate at recommended vacuum of 8" Hg at 150 scfm <br /> Treatment Method Thermal Oxidation <br />' Treatment Efficiency 98 to 99 <br /> The unit will be equipped with the following knockout pump, flow meter and pressure <br /> gauges <br /> 3.5 TASK 5 - PILOT TESTING <br /> I3 5 1 Field Procedures And Measurements <br /> Air flow, vacuum pressure and vapor concentrations will be measured during each test <br /> scenario Air flow will be measured with a flow meter Vacuum pressure will be measured <br /> using vacuum gauges or magnehelics Vapor concentrations will be measured using a PID <br />■ At selected intervals, vapor samples also will be collected in a T edlar Bag or Summa Canister <br /> for laboratory analyses Prior to conducting the pilot test, the following measurements will be <br /> recorded <br /> ■ Ground water level in wells MW-1 and MW-2 to evaluate any upwelling effect caused <br /> by the tests, <br /> ■ Pressure in wells, <br /> ■ Concentration of carbon dioxide and oxygen in wells, and <br /> ■ Concentration of hydrocarbons in wells <br /> I <br /> Protect No 1232 - 5 - ENVIRONMENTAL AUDIT, INC <br />
