Kennedy/Jenks Consultants <br /> SOG 3: Standard Operating Guideline <br /> Well Construction and Development <br /> _ 3.1 Introduction <br /> This guideline describes procedures used by Kennedy/Jenks Consultants personnel for well <br /> construction and development following completion of boring and soil sampling procedures <br /> (described in Standard Operating Guideline, Boring and Subsurface Soil Sampling). <br /> 3.2 Well Construction Materials <br /> 2-inch or 4-inch Schedule 40 PVC blank casing <br /> • 2-inch or 4-inch Schedule 40 PVC slotted casing, of appropriate slot size <br /> • 2-inch or 4-inch Schedule 40 PVC threaded and slip caps <br /> • Hasp-locking standpipes <br /> • Ground-level traffic-rated watertight well housing enclosure <br /> • Locking expansion plugs <br /> • Combination or key lock <br /> • Filter pack sand <br /> Type I or II Portland cement <br /> • Concrete <br /> • Bentonite powder <br /> • 0.25-inch bentonite pellets or chips. <br /> 3.3 Well Development Equipment <br /> • 2-inch or 4-inch-diameter vented surge block <br /> • 1-inch dedicated PVC hose for monitoring well development and purging <br /> • Centrifugal surface pump <br /> • Submersible pump (4-inch-diameter wells or larger) <br /> • 55-gallon DOT-approved drums <br /> • Teflon, stainless steel or PVC bailer <br /> Teflon-coated bailer retrieval wire <br /> • Airlift pump with foot valve and compressor <br /> • Bladder pump (2-inch diameter wells only) <br /> 3.4 Typical Procedure <br /> 1. Following completion of selected borings, install the monitoring well casing through the center of <br /> the hollow stem auger, drive casing, or open boring.
