Kennedy/Jenks Consultants <br /> Other available sources regarding soils underlying the site include: Soils Investigation Report for <br /> Proposed Brandy Tanks, Franzia Winery(Kleinfelder, 1974); and the monitoring well boring logs <br /> included in Appendix A of this Report. <br /> 1.4.2 Hydrostratigraphy <br /> Four exploratory borings drilled to depths of 26 feet bgs by J.H. Kleinfelder and Associates <br /> (Kleinfelder) in 1974 indicated fill soil underlain with interbedded strata of stiff gray-brown clayey <br /> silt and/or medium dense to dense gray to brown silty fine sand. Groundwater was not <br /> encountered in any of the four borings (Kleinfelder, 1974). <br /> Drillers' logs for five of the irrigation wells at the Facility indicate that the subsurface stratigraphy <br /> consists of clay, sand, and rare pea-size gravel. Clay is predominant, with sand-rich units <br /> present at depths of approximately 60 to 75 feet bgs;110 to 115 feet bgs, 130 to 155 feet bgs, <br /> ► 165 tol75 feet bgs, and 200 to 220+feet bgs. Two of the wells are screened in gravel and <br /> coarse sand units at depths of 70 to 80 feet bgs and 160 to 172 feet bgs (Table 2). <br /> Boring logs from the three monitoring wells installed at the Facility indicate that the subsurface <br /> stratigraphy to about 80 feet bgs consists of clay, sandy clay, sandy silt, and fine-to coarse- <br /> grained sand. Sand-rich soils are present from approximately 40 to 70 feet bgs, similar to the <br /> subsurface stratigraphy beneath the production wells. The three monitoring wells are screened <br /> from 50 to 80 feet bgs (MW-1 and MW-2) and 35.5 to 55.5 feet bgs (MW-3) (Table 3). <br /> 1.4.3 Hydrology <br /> According to groundwater elevation data obtained from monitoring wells MW-1, MW-2, and <br /> MW-3 from 1999 to 2003, the groundwater elevation has ranged from 29.05 feet above mean <br /> ` sea level (AMSL) to 50.20 feet AMSL. A summary of the groundwater elevation data is provided <br /> in Table 4. <br /> �- The groundwater flow direction since December 2000 has typically been to the northwest, and <br /> the groundwater gradient ranges from approximately 0.001 to 0.005 vertical feet per horizontal <br /> foot. As shown in Figure 5, the groundwater flow direction in October-September 2003 was to <br /> the northwest with a gradient of approximately 0.002 feet/feet. <br /> Based on calculated gradients in Table 4, MW-1 and MW-3 are considered to be hydraulically <br /> ► downgradient of the process water land application areas and upgradient of sanitary wastewater <br /> septic tank and leach field systems. MW-2 may be considered to be located hydraulically <br /> upgradient of the process water land application areas, although MW-2 is slightly offset to the <br /> west and may not accurately represent background water quality directly upgradient of the land <br /> ` application areas. <br /> Average annual rainfall for the area totals approximately 13 inches based on the Modesto <br /> Irrigation District weather station as reported by the California Data Exchange Center(CDEC). <br /> The wettest months include December,.January, February, and March with the peak monthly <br /> rainfall occurring in January.
