Kennedy/Jenks Consukants <br /> SOG 2: Standard Operating Guideline <br /> Borehole Logging <br /> 2.1 Introduction <br /> This guideline describes procedures followed by Kennedy/Jenks Consultants personnel for <br /> classifying soils and for preparing borehole logs and other types of soil reports. It assists in <br /> obtaining uniform descriptions of soils encountered during borehole programs and enhances <br /> consistency among Kennedy/Jenks Consultants personnel and among projects. <br /> Borehole logging is the systematic observation and recording of geologic and hydrogeologic <br /> information from subsurface borings and excavations. As adopted by Kennedy/Jenks Consultants, <br /> and in accordance with general practices followed by the profession, the Unified Soil Classification <br /> System (USCS) (ASTM D 2488-90) is used to identify, classify, and describe soils. <br /> 2.2 Recommended Minimum Requirements <br /> Soil classification and borehole logging should be conducted by a geologist or another professional <br /> trained in the classification of soils. <br /> 2.3 Equipment <br /> • Boring log forms (1st and 2nd sheet, K/J Form F-40.1, 40.2) <br /> • Daily inspection report forms (K/J Form F-3, F-4) <br /> Chain-of-custody forms/request for analysis forms <br /> • USCS (ASTM D 2488-90) table and classification chart <br /> _ • Soil color chart (i.e., Munsell) <br /> • American Geological Institute (AGI) data sheets <br /> • Graph paper <br /> • Engineer's scale <br /> • Previous project reports and boring logs <br /> Pocket knife or putty knife <br /> Handlens <br /> • Supply of clean water <br /> • Dilute HCL <br /> • Gloves (latex, nitrile as described in project health & safety plan) <br /> Personal protective clothing and equipment, as described in the project health & safety plan <br /> • Sample containers (brass, steel or aluminum liners, plastic or glass jars) <br /> • Decontamination equipment and supplies <br /> • Aluminum foil, Teflon sheets, and paper towels <br /> Groundwater Protection Work Plan, The Wine Group SOG 2 <br /> Franzia Winery, Ripon, California 1 <br /> s4ss�+v�amyuow�oi�a oi_wurerymWowepws�wo,Ay�anl�pendcesmlleorendeJoy oa <br />
