Observe refuse as it is brought up by the hollow stem auger or bucket auger. <br /> 2. If necessary, place the refuse in a plastic bag to examine the sample. <br /> 3. Record observations according to the following: <br /> a. Composition (by relative volume), e.g., paper, wood, plastic, cloth, cement, construction <br /> debris. Use such terms as "mostly" or"at least half." Do not use percentages. <br /> b. Moisture content: dry, damp, moist, wet. <br /> c. State of decomposition: highly decomposed, moderately decomposed, slightly <br /> decomposed, etc. <br /> d. Color: obvious mottling included. <br /> e. Texture: spongy, plastic(cohesive), friable. <br /> f. Odor. <br /> g. Combustible gas indicator readings (measure downhole). <br /> h.
