The purpose of this sampling
program is to obtain confirmatory soil samples in order to complete the UST closure at the subject
property. We would refer you to the case file maintained by your agency for the site history and
salient details regarding the UST abandonment. It should be noted that interviews with the tank
owner confirm that the tank was only filled one time, and the contents were"regular gasoline".
It is proposed to collect two (2) soil samples at a depth of two feet(2) beneath the bottom of the
abandoned-in-place UST. These samples will be collected using"slant drilling" techniques due
to the fact that the UST in question is located beneath an existing metal frame structure. All
environmental drilling protocols will be used as they apply to this situation. The auger cuttings
will be used to backfill the boreholes, presupposing that there is no olfactory or visual indications
of contamination.
The soil samples will be contained in clean brass or stainless steel tubes driven into undisturbed
soil at the specified sample depth. The tubes will be recovered from the boring, sealed with plastic
end caps, labeled, and immediately placed into a chilled ice chest. The samples will be transported
to a State of California approved analytical laboratory under chain of custody within twenty-four
hours (24 Hrs.) after they are collected.
The samples will be analyzed for the constituents specified for"Gasoline'in the"TRI-REGIONAL
BOARD STAFF RECOMMENDATIONS FOR PRELIMINARY INVESTIGATION AND
EVALUATION OF UNDERGROUND TANK SITES' (CVRWQCB and others,10 August, 1990).
The samples will be analyzed for the following:
• Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons as Gasoline,BTEX,and MTBE by U.S.E.P.A.
test method 8015Mod. / 8020Mod.
0 Total Lead by U.S.E.P.A. test method 200.7/6010
