Box 2009
Stockton, CA 95201
Re: Chevron Station#9-6171
6633 Pacific Avenue, Stockton, CA
Dear Mr. Schneider:
Enclosed is a report dated September 30, 1991 which describes groundwater monitoring by Chevron's consultant,
Sierra Environmental(Sierra),on August 29, 1991 at the site referenced above.
It appears evident from the analytical results of the groundwater samples that solvents, which may have originated
from the upgradient dry cleaning operation(s),have influenced the results of total volatile hydrocarbon analyses. In
addition to the dissolved solvents observed in the groundwater samples, other gasoline range constituents(benzene,
ethylbenzene, toluene, and total xylenes)have been detected, but only in the most upgradient well,MW-5. In March
1991,Chevron's consultant, Sierra, provided groundwater samples from each of the Chevron wells to the consultant
handling the dry cleaner's investigation so that halogenated volatile organics analysis (method 8240) could be
performed. The results of analysis indicated that dissolved solvents were present at the highest concentrations in
Chevron's wells MW-4 and MW-5,which are located on the upgradient side of the Chevron site.
Chevron has submitted a work plan proposing to install an additional well to be located directly adjacent to and
downgradient of Chevron's former underground fuel storage tanks in order to determine if there are any dissolved
gasoline hydrocarbons present in this area. At this time, based upon the information presented above, Chevron does
not wish to analyze samples from the Chevron wells for halogenated volatile organics. However, Chevron would
allow a firm which represents the party responsible for the dry cleaner's investigation to analyze samples from the
Chevron wells if this was determined to be of help to their investigation.
If you have any questions or comments, you may contact me at(510)842-8658.
Sincerely,
Clint B.
