3 IMMEDIATE HEALTH EFFECTS- (ALSO SEE SECTIONS I 1 & 12) <br /> EYE CONTACT <br /> This substance is slightly irritating to the eyes and could cause prolonged (days)impairment of your vision The degree <br /> of the injury will depend on the amount of material that gets into the eye and the speed and thoroughness of the first aid <br /> treatment Signs and symptoms may include pain tears swelling redness, and blurred vision Eye contact with the <br /> vapors fumes, or spray mist from this substance could also cause similar signs and symptoms This hazard evaluation <br /> Is based on the data from similar materials <br /> SKIN IRRITATION <br /> The skin irritation potential of this substance has not been determined However, it may be a moderate skin irritant so <br /> contact with the skin could cause prolonged (days) injury to the affected area The degree of injury will depend on the <br /> amount of material that gets on the skin and the speed and thoroughness of the first aid treatment Signs and symptoms <br /> may include pain or a feeling of heat,discoloration,swelling,and blistering Prolonged or frequently repeated contact may <br /> cause the skin to become cracked or dry from the defatting action of this material This hazard evaluation is based on data <br /> from similar materials <br /> DERMAL TOXICITY <br /> If absorbed through the skin this substance is considered practically non-toxic to internal organs This hazard evaluation <br /> is based on data from similar materials <br /> RESPIRATORY/INHALATION <br /> This substance is slightly toxic to internal organs if inhaled The degree of injury will depend on the airborne concentration <br /> and duration of exposure The target organ(s) is the nervous system inhalation of gasoline vapor at airborne <br /> concentrations exceeding 1004 ppm may cause signs and symptoms of central nervous system effects such as headache, <br /> dizziness, loss of appetite, weakness and loss of coordination Vapor concentrations in excess of 5000 ppm may cause <br /> loss of consciousness, coma and death Brief exposures to high vapor concentrations may also cause pulmonary edema <br /> and bronchitis Intentional exposures to excessively high concentration (e g, when used as a drug of abuse) have been <br /> reported to result in clinical manifestations that may Include convulsions, delirium, and hallucinations These <br /> manifestations are not known to occur following accidental inhalation of gasoline vapor during normal operations This <br /> hazard evaluations is based on data from similar materials <br /> INGESTION <br /> This substance is slightly toxtc to internal organs If swallowed The degree of injury will depend on the amount absorbed <br /> from the gut The target organ(s) is the nervous system Signs and symptoms of central nervous system effects may <br /> include one or more of the following headache dizziness,loss of appetite,weakness and loss of coordination Because <br /> of the low viscosity of this substance, it ran directly enter the lungs if it is swallowed (this is called aspiration) This can <br /> occur during the act of swallowing or when vomiting the substance Once in the lungs, the substance is very difficult to <br /> remove and can cause severe injury to the lungs and death This hazard evaluation is based on data from similar <br /> materials <br /> 4 PROTECTWE EQUIPMENT <br /> EYE PROTECTION <br /> Do not get this material in yow eyes- Eye contact can be avoided by wearing chemical goggles <br /> SKIN PROTECTION <br /> Avoid contact with skin or clothing, Statin mritact should be minimized by wearing protective clothing including gloves <br /> RESPIRATORY PROTECTION <br /> No special respiratory protection Is normally required However, if operating conditions create airborne concentrations <br /> which exceed the recommended exposure standards, the use of an approved respirator is required Refer to the OSHA <br /> Benzene Standard to determine what type of respirator is required based on exposure levels <br /> VENTILATION <br /> Use this material only in well ventilated areas <br /> Material Safety Data Sheet - Chevron Regular Gasoline Page 2 <br />
