ATTACHMENT A FIELD AND LABORATORY PROCEDURES Soil Sampling Soil samples were collected by advancing 2-inch-diameter brass sample liners into in-situ soil or into soil removed from an excavation by a backhoe bucket Soil samples for chemical analysis were retained in the brass liners, labeled, and capped with Teflon sheets and plastic end caps The samples were then sealed in clean clear zip-lock bags, placed on ice, and transported to the laboratory accompanied by the appropriate chain- of-custody documentation Conductor Casing Installation Wendt Construction installed 4 inch diameter SDR-26 piping (similar to Schedule 40 PVC) at P-5, P-7, P-16, and waste oil tank 1 locations The length of the conductor casing varies from product line to waste oil tank pit 1 locations Conductor casing installed at the product line locations was approximately 3 to 5 feet bgs Conductor casing installed at waste oil tank l was approximately 17 feet bgs At the surface all four conductor casings are covered with groundwater monitoring well type boxes Soil Sampling for Stockpiled Soil Soil samples were collected by advancing 2-inch diameter brass sample liners approximately one to two feet into the soil stockpile Several composite samples were collected Soil samples for chemical analysis were retained in the brass liners, labeled, and capped with Teflon sheets and plastic end caps The samples were then sealed in clean clear zip-lock bags, placed on ice, and transported to the laboratory accompanied by the appropriate chain-of-custody documentation Laboratory Analysis of Soil Samples Analyses for total petroleum hydrocarbons calculated as gasoline and diesel, benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene, and xylenes, and methyl tertiary butyl ether, was performed by EPA Methods 8015 (modified), EPA Method 3550, DHS Luft, and 8020 Analysis for oil and grease was performed by SM 5520 C & F Analysis for halogenated volatile 920-119 1A/RPT DOC A- i September 14, 1998
