Highway 99)
Ripon, California
San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department (EHD) has reviewed Work Plan
for Additional Site Assessment Addendum (work plan), dated September 27, 2006,
prepared and submitted by Cambria Environmental Technology, Inc. (Cambria) on your
behalf for the above-referenced site. In this work plan Cambria proposes a two-stage site
investigation. The first stage will include the advancement of three cone penetrometer
testing (CPT) borings to electronically log subsurface lithology and qualitative
contaminant levels of volatile organic contaminant; and based on this information,
advance paired borings adjacent to each CPT boring to collect depth-discrete
groundwater samples for laboratory analysis. The second stage will include the
advancement of ten direct push Geoprobe° borings while continuously logging soil
lithology and collecting soil samples based on field observations as well as grab
groundwater samples at total depth for laboratory analysis.
EHD has already approved the locations for the three CPT borings and ten Geoprobe°
borings by letter dated August 28, 2006. Furthermore, EHD concurs with Cambria's
recommendation to advance the first CPT boring to total depth of 100 feet below grade
surface (bgs) adjacent to monitoring well MW-1, and based on data from this CPT
boring, advance the two remaining paired CPT borings to between 80 and 100 feet bgs
while collecting two to three depth-discrete groundwater samples from the adjacent
paired borings for laboratory analysis.
EHD also approves the second-stage site investigation involving the advancement of ten
Geoprobe° borings to depths of 25 feet bgs, or deeper, based on results from the CPT
investigation and on field observations and photo ionization detector (PID) readings.
Between two and six soil samples per boring will be collected based on "visual
observations, lithologic changes, and PID readings," in addition to the one grab
groundwater sample.
