18 June 2001
AGE-NC Project No. 98-0433
3.6. GROUND WATER EXTRACTION PILOT TEST
A unconfined shallow ground water drawdown pump will be.utilized to induce a decline in static
water level from the recovery well installed adjacent to well MW-1; pressure transducers will be
deployed in three wells to measure difference in ground water levels before well pumping versus
during well pumping. The ground water pumping rate will. static at five gallons per minute,
attempting to rapidly obtain a static ground water extraction. A submersible pump (four-inch) will
be placed the terminal depth of the extraction well installed on the site.
Purged ground water will be containerized in a 6,500-gallon polyethylene above-ground storage tank
(`Baker"-style). Composite "grab"ground water samples will be collected from the Baker tank for
analysis of TPH-g, BTEX and fuel additives. The purged ground water will be discharged into the
City of Ripon sewer system pending regulatory approval or will be transported to a suitable
hazardous waste facility. The duration of the drawdown pilot test will be approximately 12-hours.
The proposed drawdown pilot test will be designed to obtain general aquifer characteristics such as
hydraulic conductivity, transmissivity, well effectiveness (efficiency) and drawdown at various
pumping rates. Results of the eight-hour drawdown pilot test would evaluate the potential of induced
ground water drawdown for plume capture; the pump test will also help to evaluate the feasibility
of ex-situ ground water"pump and treat' as a remedial alternative.
Results of the drawdown pilot test will be included in a feasibility or Quarterly Report and submitted
to PHS-EHD.
3.7. EQUIPMENT DECONTAMINATION AND WASTE MANAGEMENT
All sampling tools used for sample collection will be thoroughly rinsed with clean water after being
washed with a solution of Alconox. All down-hole drilling equipment will be pressure washed prior
to starting each boring.
All sampling tools used for ground water sample collection, except for disposable bailers, will be
thoroughly rinsed with clean water after being washed with a solution of Alconox.
Decontamination water generated during the ground water sampling activities will be contained in
DOT-approved drums which will .be appropriately labeled for storage. Drums containing
decontamination water will be stored on-site pending appropriate removal and disposal.
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
