Yeasibility Testing Work Plan
Jimco Truck Plaza
Road
C A M B R I A 1022 Frontage R o
Ripon,California
May 18,2005
5.1 Pre-Field Activities
Prior to initiating field activities Cambria will conduct the following tasks:
5.1.1 Site Health and Safety Plan
A site-specific health and safety plan will be prepared to educate site workers and minimize their
exposure to potential hazards related to site activities.
5.1.2 Permit
A well installation permit will be obtained from SJCEHD. Also,Cambria will notify the San Joaquin
Valley Unified Air Pollution Control District prior to performing the SVE/AS pilot test.
5.1.3 utility Clearance
The proposed drilling location will be pre-marked with white paint and Underground Service Alert
(USA)will be notified of the drilling activities at least 72 hours before work begins. A private utility
locator may be retained to clear the proposed drilling location of any unmarked utilities.
5.2 Air Sparge Well Installation
Cambria proposes to install air sparge well (AS-1) between wells EW-1, MW-1, and MW-9 (See
Figure 3). The air sparge well will be located approximately 10 feet away from extraction well EW-1
and 15 feet away from observation well MW-1 to assist with feasibility testing. The well will be
manually cleared using a hand auger and/or post hole digger to approximately 5 feet bgs. The well
pilot boring will be drilled using a hollow stem auger drill rig equipped with 8-inch diameter
continuous flight augers. During drilling, undisturbed soil samples will be collected at approximate 5 d jc_ .
foot_ intervals with a California-modified split-spoon sampler lined with brass tubes. The soils will
visually examined and classified in a general accordance with Unified Soil Classification System 1 `
sw
(USCS). The onsite geologist will record information including lithology, headspace readings, blow
counts, and depths on the boring log form. G, ,✓ 2,
The anticipated target depth for the air sparge well is approximately 33 feet bgs. Based on previous
borings drilled in the immediate vicinity, a lower permeability layer of soil comprised of
predominantly silts is anticipated to be present at approximately 33 feet bgs. The air sparge well will
be constructed so the screen interval sits atop this lower permeability layer at approximately 10 below
the top of the water table. Should this low permeability layer be found at a depth other than 33 feet
bgs,the well construction will be modified accordingly. The pilot boring will be drilled using 8-inch
7
