Rowe:
At the request of Olympian Oil,Advanced GeoEnvironmental, Inc. (AGE) has prepared this letter
regarding. the removal of underground storage tanks (USTs), excavation and disposal of
• hydrocarbon-impacted soil, and analysis of alternative methods to address stockpiled impacted soil
remaining on-site at the referenced address. The location of the site is illustrated in Figure 1. A plan
of the site, showing major structures and former. and present USTs and above-ground storage tanks
(ASTs), is illustrated in Figure 2.
The following information was obtained from representatives of Olympian Oil, Walton Construction
and Grayland Environmental:
Removal of Former Northern Fuel Islands
• On 18 .lune 1998, six fuel dispenser islands and associated piping were removed from the
northern end of the, fuel system. Product lines and dispensers were excavated and soil
samples were collected for petroleum hydrocarbon analysis. Approximately 150 cubic yards
of soil were excavated from the product line and dispenser areas and was stockpiled near the
east end of the service building. The stockpile was later designated"SP2-East" (Figure 2).
• Three samples .were collected from stockpile SP2-East on 01 September 1998 by
representatives of Grayland Environmental and transmitted to Kiff Analytical for analysis.
The three samples were composited for analysis, and unfortunately, were composited with
one sample from stockpile SP2-West, which may have been excavated from the'southern
dispenser area on 01 September 1998. The laboratory analysis indicated that the soil in the
two stockpiles was impacted by low'concentrations of total, petroleum hydrocarbons
quantified as gasoline (TPH-g), low concentrations of benzene and toluene, and moderate.
4005 North Wilson Way, Stockton,California 95205
Telephone(209)467-1006 FAX(209)467-1118
