MEMORANDUM
CALIFORNIA REGIONAL WATER QUALITY CONTROL BOARD • CENTRAL VALLEY REGION
3443 Routier Road, Suite A Phone: (916) 255-3000
Sacramento, CA 95827-3098 CALNET: 8-494-3000
TO: GORDON L. BOGGY FROM: ELIZABETH A. THAYER
UGT Program Mana er Associate Engineer
23 January 1995 ? SIGNATURE: a-
DATE:
SUBJECT: ROND PROPERT 7001 ROND ROAD, LODI, SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY
Closure review and concurrence have been requested for this site.
A 1000 gallon gasoline tank and a 500 gallon diesel tank were removed on 16 March 1992. At
the time of removal, the tanks were reported to be in "fair condition", and there was petroleum
odor but no soil discoloration. Two soil samples were collected from the tank pit. The sample
collected from the middle of the pit was analyzed for kerosene, diesel, motor oil, and BTEX.
Kerosene, diesel, motor oil, and benzene were not detected. However, 14 ppm toluene, 6.8 ppm
ethyl benzene, and 65 ppm xylene were found in the middle sample. The sample from the fill
end was analyzed for BTEX and gasoline. No benzene was detected, however, the sample
contained 132 ppm toluene, 120 ppm ethyl benzene, 900 ppm xylene, and 22 ppm gasoline.
In November 1993, one monitoring well (MW-1) was installed adjacent to the tank pit. Lithology
consists of sandy silt, clayey silt, silty clay, sand, and silty sand. Soil samples from 10 and 15 feet
did not contain detectable levels of BTEX or TPHg. During drilling, saturated soil was
encountered in a sand layer between 18 and 22 feet. However, when a ground water sample was
collected, depth to water was approximately 8 feet in the well. The water sample contained 0.64
ppb toluene and 0.89 ppb xylene.
In March 1994, Board staff collected ground water samples from the monitoring well and the on-
site domestic drinking water well. No ground water contamination was detected in either well.
