Therefore, we conclude that no
significant health impacts will result from long-term inhalation
of VOCs from Valley Haven and/or SHAD. For more specific
comments regarding the Risk Assessment, please see the enclosure
from our Toxicology and Risk Assessment Unit.
We must emphasize that the risk assessment does not address any
potential risk that may result from the installation of
additional air strippers at SHAD. Risk to the surrounding
community from additional air strippers should be considered
prior to the approval of any new air strippers.
Based on the existing information, the Department is not
considering designating the Valley Haven property as border zone
property pursuant to Health and Safety Code Section 25221.1 (a) .
However, if any new information indicates there is a significant
health hazard, or if the Conditions, Covenants, and Restrictions
identified in this letter are not adopted and recorded, we may
reconsider a border zone designation.
Pursuant to the Conditions of Approval, this letter will be
recorded in the Title Report and the subdivision's Conditions,
Covenants, and Restrictions; and the public report is to be filed
with the State Department of Real Estate.
If you have any questions concerning remediation measures at the
Sharpe Army Depot site, please contact Jim Pinasco, Region 1
Office, at (916) 920-7525. If you have questions regarding this
letter or border zone issues, please contact Barbara Marcotte at
(916) 324-2434 .
Sincerely,
Allen K.
