Summary of Applicable or Relevant and <br /> Appropriate Requirements (ARARs) <br /> Defense Distribution RegioWest, Shar e, San Joaquin Count <br /> Title Description Comment <br /> Water Quality Control Plans Each Regional Board promulgates and ARAR; applicable <br /> administers a Water Quality Control <br /> Plan for ground and surface water <br /> basin(s) within its region. The State <br /> Board also promulgates state-wide <br /> Water Quality Control Plans, which the <br /> Regional Boards administer. The bene- • <br /> ficial use designations and water <br /> quality objectives in these plans are <br /> promulgated criteria setting chemical- <br /> specific concentration limits to pro- <br /> tect a variety of uses of specific <br /> bodies of water. Many of the water <br /> quality objectives are stated in <br /> narrative (rather than numerical ) <br /> form. The Regional Boards interpret <br /> these narrative objectives on a case- <br /> by-case basis, by applying water <br /> quality based standards, criteria or <br /> advisory concentrations from other <br /> state and federal agencies and other <br /> sources, as needed to protect desig- <br /> nated beneficial uses. • <br /> State Water Resources Control Establishes numerical water quality ARAR; applicable for remedial <br /> Board Resolution No. 91-33 objectives for inland surface waters actions which include disposal <br /> (Inland Surface Water Plan) to protect human health and freshwater to surface waters. <br /> aquatic life. <br /> 17 April 1992 -2- <br />
