Ken Landau, Jon Marshack, Ton vorster, and <br /> Dan Ward. Cal Koehn. Scott Nevins, and Bill Pfister participated by speaker <br /> phone. The meeting was precipitated by Dan Ward's 14 July memorandum <br /> which sought answers to specific questions and a regionwide policy direction <br /> on this issue. The goals of the meeting were to determine what procedures <br /> were currently being used and to arrive at a consistent approach for managing <br /> these wastes in our Reaion <br /> Characteristics, Classifications and Management Options: <br /> The fullowinq approaches for each tvoe of contaminant were discussed and <br /> appear to De consistent with existing regulations and statutes These <br /> approaches are summarized in the attached table. <br /> Waste Oit — <br /> • May contain Mah concentrations of PCBs, polvnuclear aromatics (PNAs), <br /> heavy metals, chlorinatea solvents, and other hazardous constituents in <br /> addition to benzene, toluene, and xylene (BTX) and other petroleum <br /> hvdrocarbons. <br /> • Classified as 'hazardous waste' under DHS requlations and must be disposed <br /> of at Class I waste manaaement units. <br /> rude i 1 <br /> * Contains BTX, asornaltics, organic acids, PNAs and other petroleum <br /> hydrocarbons. ;Warn lab about asphaltics before anaiyses are run on soil <br /> samples to avoid "qurnming up" equipment.) <br />
