HEA 1'' 01/22/92
PERMIT/SEMMES
DEFENSE DISTRIBUTION REGION WEST--SHARPE SITE PROPOSES PLAN FOR
CONTAMINATED GROUNDWATER
Lathrop, California
January 1992
The Defense Distribution Region West--Sharpe Site (DDRW-Sharpe Site, referred
to as SHARPE) and the U.S. Army Toxic and Hazardous Materials Agency
(USATHAMA), in cooperation with the Central Valley Regional Water Quality
Control Board (CVRWQCB), the Department of Toxic Substances Control
(DTSC), and the U.S. Enviromnental Protection Agency (EPA), are requesting
public comment on measures to address environmental contamination at the
SHARPE Superfund site in Lathrop, California.
Environmental studies conducted to date concerning SHARPE are contained in
draft reports, called a remedial investigation/feasibility study (RI/FS), which are
now available for public review and comment. The draft RI/FS reports present
and describe data collected at SHARPE and develop and evaluate possible
measures, called remedial actions, to address environmental contamination that
has been identified.
Based on the draft RI/FS reports and other information, SHARPE and
USATHAMA are proposing remedial actions for contaminated groundwater.
SHARPE and USATHAMAs preferred alternative for groundwater is air stripping.
Treated water will be disposed of through a network consisting of water reuse by
local industry, groundwater injection, and surface water discharge.
After public review and comment on this proposed plan, the draft RI/FS reports,
and other site information, SHARPE and USATHAMA will consider the comments
received and make a final decision regarding remedial actions to be implemented
1
