• I-DESCRIPTION OF FACILITY <br /> The Permittee, the Defense Logistics Agency, Defense Distribution Region <br /> West-Sharpe Site has applied for a Permit to store hazardous waste in <br /> Buildings 530 and 605. These buildings will store hazardous waste that is <br /> generated on site. Building 605 is 40 feet wide by 50 feet long consisting <br /> of ten individual cells separating incompatible and reactive wastes . <br /> Building 530 is 25 feet wide by 25 feet long with no individual cells <br /> because the waste stored in this area is either compatible solid waste or <br /> empty containers. The design and construction of the storage facilities <br /> comply with applicable state and federal standards and they have been <br /> certified for their intended uses by a registered engineer in California. <br /> The following types of waste are stored in Building 605: sulfuric acid, <br /> phosphoric acid, 1, 1, 1-trichloroethane, trichloroethylene, chlordane, <br /> polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) , mercury, vanadium, lead, used oils , <br /> phenol, methyl ethyl ketone, methyl alcohol, toluene, cyclohexylamine, <br /> dimethyl formamide, acetonitrile, avitrol, and warfarin. In Building 530 <br /> only sand contaminated with small amounts of cadmium, chromium and lead, <br /> and triple-rinsed empty containers are stored The majority of wastes in <br /> both buildings are stored in 55-gallon drums. In Building 605 there is a <br /> small amount of waste stored in containers smaller than 55-gallons . The <br /> storage capacity of Building 605 is 15, 455 gallons (281 55-gallon drums) , <br /> while Building 530 has a capacity of 5,500 gallons (100 55-gallon drums) . <br /> • <br /> 1 <br />
