• Provide a summary of DDJC's IRP Program <br /> • Provide program updates since the last Community Update Forum meeting <br /> • Summarize the DDJC-Sharpe Five-Year Review Report <br /> Mr. Guzman used the organizational chart to describe the DDJC-Sharpe Program Team, <br /> including brief descriptions of the roles and responsibilities for each party. <br /> He also provided a general overview of the IRP program from its inception in 1979 with <br /> the commencement of IRP studies. Program highlights include the Federal Facilities <br /> Agreement in 1989; the Groundwater Record of Decision in 1993;Removal Actions <br /> completed; and the present submittal of the Five-Year Review Report in 2003. See the <br /> presentation copy(attached)for additional milestone dates. <br /> Mr. Guzman described the primary Chemicals of Concern at the Sharpe depot(volatile <br /> organic compounds [VOCs],trichloroethene [TCE] and tetrachloroethene [PCE],with <br /> lesser amounts of lead,chromium, arsenic,pesticides and petroleum) and their past uses. <br /> He mentioned the start-up dates for each of the three groundwater extraction treatment <br /> plants: <br /> • 1987 for South Balloon Groundwater Treatment Plant <br /> • 1990 for North Balloon Groundwater Treatment Plant <br /> • 1995 for Central Area Groundwater Treatment Plant <br /> Mr. Guzman reported that the groundwater remedy for DDJC-Sharpe and the continued <br /> Remedial Process Optimization of the Long Term Monitoring/Operations and <br /> Maintenance Programs would be utilized to minimize costs and reduce clean-up time <br /> Mr. Guzman described DDJC-Sharpe community relations process, which includes: <br /> • Updates to the Community Relations Plan approximately every two years, <br /> including community interviews <br /> • Community outreach through Environmental Update Fact Sheets <br /> • Community Update Forum meetings <br /> Mr. Guzman concluded by stating that DDJC is committed to keeping the community <br /> informed regarding DDJC-Sharpe environmental issues now and in the future. <br /> Mr. Guzman introduced Tom Cudzilo,URS,who presented a summary of the DDJC- <br /> Sharpe Five-Year Review Report. <br /> Mr. Cudzilo stated that the purpose of the report was to determine if cleanup activities at <br /> DDJC-Sharpe are protecting human health and environment.The report reviewed the <br /> activities being undertaken to clean up metals and pesticide contamination in soil in three <br /> areas and VOCs in soil in six areas.The report also addressed progress in cleaning up <br />
