Review of the Draft Groundwater Salinity Work Plan, DDJC Sharpe Site,
Lathrop, California
January 2006
GENERAL COMMENT
1. Various salinity definitions are used in the Draft Groundwater Salinity Investigation
Work Plan(the Work Plan) for DDJC-Sharpe, but the definition that U.S. EPA uses f br
salinity is not included. For purposes of groundwater classification, the distinction
between Class II (potential source of drinking water) and Class III (not a potential source
of drinking water) is based on several factors, including salinity, which is defined as total
dissolved solids (TDS) greater than 10,000 milligrams per liter(mg/L) (U.S. EPA, 1986).
Although the decision points for the DDJC-Sharpe facility and surrounding area may be
lower than 10,000 mg/L TDS, it would be useful for perspective if the EPA definitio
were included somewhere in the Work Plan.
REFERENCE
U.S. EPA, 1986.
