• REPORT OF ADDITIONAL GECINSATRI?:
' SOIL AND GROUNDWATER INVESTIGATION
Ridgeway (formerly Burns) Property
(San Joaquin County APN 232-170-05)
1881 Rustan Road
Tracy, California
1.0 INTRODUCTION
This report presents results of field activities performed by Geomarrix Consultants, Inc. (Geomatrix),
on behalf of Chevron Environmental Management Company(CEMC), at the Ridgeway(formerly
Bums)Property(San Joaquin County APN 232-170-05), located at 1881 Rustan Road in Tracy,
California(the site;Figure 1). The investigations described in this report occurred during two
separate field efforts;the first was conducted in May 2000 and the second was conducted in October
2000. The May 2000 investigation included advancing two soil borings to collect soil and grab
' groundwater samples at off-site locations. The October 2000 investigation included advancing one
soil boring to collect a grab groundwater sample at an on-site location. This work was performed in
'• accordance with Geomatrix's March 22,2000 work plan submitted to San Joaquin County Public
Health Services(SJCPHS).
' The purpose of this work was to obtain data to assess the off-site lateral extent of petroleum
hydrocarbon-affected soil and to evaluate groundwater quality on site and downgradient of the site.
This report contains a description of previous work conducted at the site,a summary of the objectives
of the May and October 2000 investigations, a description of the sampling activities performed, the
results obtained from the two investigation, and our conclusions regarding site conditions.
2.0 BACKGROUND
' Chevron's former Old Valley Pipeline(OVP)was located along the northern boundary of the site
adjacent to the railroad right-of-way. The OVP transported heavy petroleum(crude and fuel oil)
' from Bakersfield to Richmond, California, from the early 1900s to the 1950s.
' On May 12, 1999,Earth Systems Consultants(ESC)advanced one soil boring in the northwest
comer of the property where a reported pipeline release occurred in 1935 (boring EB 1 a;Figure 2).
ESC reported no visible indications of petroleum hydrocarbons in soil or groundwater. EBS
collected three soil samples(at depths of 2.5,5,and 12 feet below ground surface [bgs])and a grab
• groundwater sample from the boring. All samples were analyzed for purgeable and extractable
\\SF3\DEPTDATA\DOC_SAFE\6000S\6115.00TDEC2000REPORT\BURNS SOILGW RPTNOV00_I.DOC 1
