I FIELD INVESTIGATION <br /> D K Barber P E and Associates' staff carried out sod sampling and monitoring well <br /> construction in keeping with their October 17, 2000, work plan towards the <br /> characterization of groundwater and sod impacted with petroleum hydrocarbons This <br /> study is to support a closure request for the Acampo Plant Site for Western Oil & <br /> Spreading, Inc (WO&S) Following submittal of the February 28, 2002 interim findings <br /> and review of the quarterly groundwater monitoring well findings, submitted April 26, 2002 <br /> ' The responsible party (WOS) wishes to proceed with further characterization of the <br /> underground contamination This is the work plan for further soil and ground water <br /> sampling using a Geoprobe® direct push technology device tentatively scheduled <br /> for mid May 2002. <br /> The site is on approximately 2 13 acres of relatively flat covered by aggregate road base, <br /> improved land hosting a liquid asphalt and lignin based road oil storage and mixing <br /> facility The site's industrial history has been chronicled back to 1955 Currently there are <br /> 16 above ground storage tanks containing petroleum hydrocarbon, water or lignin based <br /> products The site is active In 1985 the business was purchased by Mike and John <br /> Telfer and renamed Western Oil and Spreading, Inc The site is located at 19256 N <br /> ' Highway 99, several hundred yards east of the frontage road Reference Figure 1, <br /> Location Map The relatively flat site is bordered on the north by an open field (previously <br /> an apple orchard), to the east and south by open fields and to the west by several homes, <br /> separating it from the frontage road It is one quarter mile south of Woodbridge Road in <br /> Acampo, CA within San Joaquin County <br /> 1.1.1 Work Prior to November 2000 <br /> ' The following is extracted from the Gallardo Report found in Appendix E On October 22, <br /> 1987, two 20,000 GA underground storage tank (UST)s used to store liquid cutback <br /> asphalt, one 1,000 GA UST used to store diesel fuel, and one 500 GA UST used to store <br /> gasoline fuel were removed from the site property Analytical results collected during the <br /> tank removals indicated petroleum impacted soil within the USTs' cavity location <br /> On December 10, 1998 Gallardo & Associates, Windsor, CA (Gallardo) was retained by <br /> the owner's representative Jeff Hopkins, to plan and perform a limited soil and <br /> ' 1-1 <br />
