1 3.2 Soil Contamination
Findings by Barber's study indicated non-detect levels of BTEX hydrocarbons in soil at
boreholes C-1 and C-3 (excepting very low levels ethylbenzene and xylene (less than 0 015
mg/kg reported in C-3) as well as only trace amounts of ethylbenzene and xylene (less than
0 065 mg/kg reported in C-517) Contamination with heavier fractions (purgeable C6-
C12) was found in soil between 25 and 40 FT bgs in boreholes C-2 and C-4/6, ranging
upwards to 15,500 mg/kg and at 25 FT bgs in borehole C-517.A scaled and updated site
1 map with boring locations identified is attached as Figure 5 A compilation of all findings
may be found in Table 1, "Summary of Laboratory Findings"
' Non-detect levels were reperted for soil samples from MW No 1 These samples were only
collected for analyses below 35 FT bgs
13 3 Groundwater
Groundwater was sampled when encountered in the boreholes and from the monitoring well
on January 10 and March 30, 2001 While BTEX was only above 0 500 ug/L In Borehole C-
4/6, extraGiable hydrocarbons were identified in groundwater samples at boreholes C-1 -
Q-3, C-4, C-5 and MW-1_
Additional "quarterly samples"were collected from the site's MW-1 on January 9 and April 11,
2002 with findings reported April 26, 2002 They may be found In attached Appendix I
In summary; between 1 and 3 mg/L of an extractable, diesel like, petroleum
hydrocarbon persists in the shallow groundwater at about 48 FT bgs.
The groundwater gradient established from surrounding inactive irrigation wells slo ed at
9 9 gp
' 0 0092 and between December 2000 and April 2001 its direction had vaned by several
degrees about N 5 deg E Historically, the ground-water flows to the north in this area
Reported water level measurements' taken March 1 2002 of three surrounding g m onitonng
wells supporting Victor Meat's remediation work were reviewed and found to substantiate the
Northerly flow direction of the uppermost zone
(N 2 deg E) at a current (3/01/02) gradient sloping downward at 0.002 FT/FT
Foothill Engineering to CVRWQCB,Subt Monitoring Well Event Analysis Report and Site Examination, CVRWQCB Order No 5-
01-057(Victor Fine Meats}
1-5
