l <br /> 3 SCOPE OF WORK <br /> Western Oil & Spreading Inc continues the following tasks leading to closure of the <br /> contaminated site <br /> 1 (1) Characterize contaminated soil zone <br /> (2) Characterize the shallow groundwater zone and any contamination <br /> (3) Evaluate applicability and necessity of various remediation schemes <br /> r (4) Carry out remediation or leave in place options <br /> (5) Apply for and achieve closure status of the site <br /> 3.1 Characterize <br /> Soil Contamination Zone <br /> Exploratory borings utilizing either a continuous flight, hollow-stem auger drilling <br /> equipment and Direct Push Technology (DPT) using a Geoprobe® were performed The <br /> groundwater surface was found to be between 50 to 60 feet bgs Contaminated sod was <br /> classified and analyzed for type and extent of contamination <br /> 3 1.1 Site Specific Soil Sampling <br /> Soil and monitoring well construction borings have identified hydrocarbon contamination <br /> in the sod particularly in the vicinity of Monitoring Well 1 and 2 Additional holes were <br /> bored on the adjacent property with consent of the landowner with well drilling permitting <br /> from San Joaquin County PHS/EHD <br /> 3.2 Characterize Intercepted Water <br /> Collected water at time of boring and ongoing monitoring has been analyzed for <br /> hydrocarbons Results may be found in APPENDIX Current contamination levels vary <br /> between <0 050 and 1 200 g/L of diesel like extractable hydrocarbons <br /> 3.2 1 Monitoring Well Installation and Sampling <br /> Six 2" monitoring wells have been constructed and sampling has continued on a <br /> quarterly basis over the past 15 months year The underlying ground water stratum is at <br /> about 50- to 60-feet bgs Water sample collection with purging, stabilization and <br /> sampling has been conducted by Del Tech Geotechnical Support Services (Oakdale, CA) <br /> utilizing in place the Waterra® system tubes Results are available in APPENDIX D, <br /> CERTIFIED LABORATORY RESULTS <br /> 3-1 <br />
