' Site Specific Directions
Generally two water samples from each boring will be submitted for chemical
' analysis
Ground water samples will be collected from encountered sub surface water in an
effort to define the lateral extent of contaminated groundwater The actual sampling
locations will be dependent on access, surface condition, and potential encountered
buried objects Please reference Figure 4, Site Plan Three CPT borings will be
placed just beyond the suspected contamination zone The first set of three holes
will be approximately in a 120 deg arc 100 LF down gradient from known
contamination (MW No 6) If contamination is encountered in a boring the distance
from the presumed center of the contaminated soil (previous UST location) will be
increased and an additional DPT boring will be placed If no hydrocarbons are
found in the sample a second boring closer to the source will be completed and
1 sampled
The selection of water samples for laboratory analysis is based upon 1) the project
objectives (define plume boundary) , 2) qualitative field screening performed in the
field using the organic vapor detector and 3) field observations such as lithology,
odor, measured resistance, or high moisture content
CPT boring holes will be closed by grouting the boring with cement/bentonite slung
The water samples will be submitted under chain of custody procedures to and
analyzed by a California DOH certified laboratory The laboratory of choice is
Sequoia Analytical in Sacramento Samples will be submitted on a "normal" 10-15
working day turnaround basis, utilized the attached chain of custody form
The water samples will be analyzed using the following method
' TPH-Extractable as Diesel (by EPA Method 8015M or California's DOH LUFT method)
Cement grout containing 5 percent bentonite will be placed in the probe hole to the
' ground surface Reference elevations for each probe location will be Depth to
water surface in CPT holes will be measured and recorded after level has
stabilized Monitoring well elevations will be surveyed by a State of California
' registered civil engineer or licensed surveyor or a subcontractor to the nearest 0 01
foot relative to mean sea level or a site datum
Well installation will be carried out by a properly licensed C-57 contractor A permit
for the test well boring will be required from San Joaquin County Health Department
B-2
