Mr Daniel K Barber
D K Barber & Associates
June 21, 2402
subsequent bores were installed by hollow stem auger and subsequently completed as
' monitoring wells (The final well MW-7 was drilled by Mr Barber on June 7, 2002 after
Fred Hayden of SES left the site on June 7, 2002) All the wells were drilled to depths of
approximately 60 feet below grade Groundwater was generally encountered at between
50 and 55 feet below ground surface (bgs) Screens were placed between 40 and 60 feet
bgs Groundwater was not observed to rise after being first encountered, suggesting
unconfined conditions
Field Screening for Contamination and Soil Sampling
' Potential organic contamination was evaluated in the soil cores by screening soil samples
1 every five feet with a photoionization detector (PID) provided by D K Barber &
Associates Approximately 100 grams of soil sample was placed in a ZiplockTM bag,
sealed, and allowed to equilibrate for at least two minutes before screening As
' summarized on Table 1 and in the borehole logs, PID readings were most pronounced in
bores MW-2 and MW-4, were non detected for all samples in bore MW-3 and were
mostly non-detectable with trace levels in bores D-1, MW-5 and MW-6 The highest
readings were associated with 25 to 35 foot interval in bore MW-4 where concentrations
of 13 to 102 ppmv were reported No obvious staining or odors indicative of
' contamination were noted during the field work except where indicated in the borehole
logs
' Soil sampling was limited to the vadose zone area between 5 feet and the capillary frnge
at about 55 feet bgs Of the X soil samples collected 16 were submitted for analyses
based on their being a PID response and/or previous site investigation data The
155samples [samples D1-20, MW-4-25, MW-4-30, MW-4-35, MW-4-40, MW-4-55,
MW-3-20, MW-30-15, MW-3-45, MW-2-10, MW-2-15, MW-2-20, MW-2-30, MW-40,
MW-2-45 and MW-2-55 were submitted for laboratory analyses to Sequoia laboratories
by D K Barber and Associates to be analyzed for TPH components
' GROUNDWATER WELL COMPLETION
A total of five groundwater wells were completd as part of the June 2002 field
charaterization program The wells were completed in accordance with the approved
workplan and the protocols and procedures approved by apllicable well installtion
regulations and guidance
1'40
Stellar Environmental Solutions
1
