2.2 Limited Former Waste Oil UST Soil Sampling Investigation
A single hand-augur soil boring will be placed immediate) adjacen o the former 500-gallon
waste oil tank and advanced to a total depth of 10 feet below ground surface (bgs). Soil samples
will be collected at 5 and 10 feet bgs using procedures outlined in Appendix 2. The soil samples
will be screened with a calibrated photo ionization device (PID) in the field. If the boring
encounters obvious petroleum hydrocarbon soil contamination the boring will continue to be
advanced to the base of identified petroleum hydrocarbon contamination or until the depth
reached that will make hand auguring impractical.
Soil samples will be obtained by drive sampler using 6-inch long brass sleeves as outlined in
Appendix 2. All sampling equipment will be cleaned in the field using procedures outlined in
Appendix 2. The soil boring will be backfilled with neat cement in accordance with SJCEHD
abandonment criteria to within six inches of the surface. The upper 6 inches of the soil boring
will be filled with clean native soil. Cuttings will be placed in a 55-gallon USDOT approved
drum that will be labeled and maintained at the site pending analysis for appropriate disposal.
The soil samples will be and placed in a cooler for transport to the analytical laboratory using
protocols outlined in Appendix 3. The soil samples will be analyzed in accordance with
recommended minimum verification analyses for waste oil tanks identified in Table 2 of the Tri-
Regional Recommendations (Appendix 1).
The soil samples will be analyzed with the following USEPA analytical test methods:
TPH-Gasoline by USEPA Test Method 8260B
TPH-Diesel by USEPA Test Method 8015M
Volatile Organic Compounds by USEPA Test Method 8260B
Semi-volatile Organic Compounds by USEPA Test Method 8270C
Oil and Grease by USEPA Test Method 1664A
PCBs by USEPA Test Method 8082
Title 22 Metals (five metals (Cadmium, Chromium,Lead,Nickel and Zinc) as follow:
Cadmium: by USEPA Test Method 7131A
Chromium: by USEPA Test Method 6010B
Lead:by USEPA Test Method 7421
Nickel:by USEPA Test Method 7521
Zinc:by USEPA Test Method 6010B
3
