EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The depth to groundwater was measured and water samples were collected from five monitor wells
and the Gillies domestic well on March 7, 2001 The depth to groundwater in most wells was
approximately 15 inches less than in December, and ranged between 51 and 54 feet The
groundwater gradient is not planar, and groundwater is apparently flowing eastward from both the
north and south, forming a trough-shaped depression through the center of the site This is a pattern
that has been observed occasionally at flus site
All samples were analyzed for TPH-diesel, and one sample was also analyzed for TPH-gasoline and
BTEX Diesel was detected in four of the seven samples The concentration in most wells has
fluctuated from quarter to quarter, without demonstrating any clear trends This remained true
during the first quarter, when the diesel concentration increased from non-detect to 64 parts per
billion in the domestic well, from 130 to 210 parts per billion in GT-1, and from 1,000 to 8,500
parts per billion in GT-10 but decreased from 160 to 59 parts per billion in GT-6 The wells were
not purged prior to sampling, and the results suggest that purging has little effect on the laboratory
results Hence, in the future, we recommend sampling the wells without purging This will result in
a significant cost savings to the Responsible Party and the State UST Cleanup Fund
I
