• EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The depth to groundwater was measured and water samples were collected from the Gillies
Trucking site on October 5, 1999 Eight water samples were sent to McCambell Analytical
Laboratories for analysis of Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons in the gasoline and diesel ranges and for
BTEX In addition, in order to check the validity of the second quarter results from the Gillies
domestic well (G-1), one sample was collected from this well on July 15
Groundwater is present at a depth of 55 feet (approximately eight feet deeper than when measured
in June 1999) The groundwater gradient is unusually flat at this time, with a difference of only 0 03
ft between the highest and lowest wells With such a small difference, the direction of groundwater
flow is uncertain, but it is likely that the flow rate is very low
Diesel was detected in seven of eight wells, at concentrations ranging from 96 µg/l (ppb) to 7,000
ppb Gasoline was detected in four of the eight samples, ranging from 51 ppb to 1,500 ppb
Benzene was reported in GT-6 at 19 ppb and in GT-10 at 15 ppb Both of these results are
somewhat surprising, since concentrations are usually higher in GT-10 and below detection limits
in GT-6 Even more surprising, MTBE was reported at 100 ppb in GT-6, MTBE had not been
detected previously in this well Hence, this result is considered unreliable, and may be due to
laboratory error
