GROUND ZERO ANALYSIS, INC.
1714 Main Street
Escalon,California 95320 S A FJ 10 A Q U I c a COUNTY
Telephone: (209)838-9888 E N Y IR C N H E N T A L
Facsimile: (209)838-9883 HEALTH DEPARTMENT
May 16,2005
Mr. Mike Infurna
San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Department
304 East Weber Avenue, Third Floor
Stockton, CA 95202
Subject: Results of Subsurface Investigation
26237 East Miller Avenue,Escalon, California
Dear Mr. Infurna:
On April 8, 2005 Ground Zero Analysis, Inc. (Ground Zero) performed a subsurface
investigation at the subject site (Figure 1). Ground Zero conducted the investigation to provide
an indication of the presence and magnitude of any soil contamination resulting from previous
clandestine drug laboratory operations at the property. The investigation was conducted at the
request of and under the direction of the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department
(EHD).
BACKGROUND
On June 24, 2004, Network Environmental Systems, Inc. (NES) inspected the subject property,
which was known to have been affected by clandestine drug laboratory activity. The work was
conducted in response to a letter from the EHD dated August 17, 2004. NES collected wipe
samples from various locations inside the mobile home. Soil samples were also collected from soil
adjacent to the house and the irrigation well, and a water sample was collected from the septic tank
serving the mobile home. Samples were analyzed for chloride, phosphorus, iodide, pH, and
methamphetamine.
Methamphetamine was detected in the wipe samples collected by NES. The water sample collected
from the septic system also contained methamphetamine, as well as low levels of phosphorus and
chloride. The soil samples did not contain methamphetamine but did contain elevated levels of
phosphorus. The results of NES's work were reported in a Preliminary Site Assessment Report
created for the owner, Mr. Robert Van Spronsen, dated July 23,2004.
G:\GROUNDZE\Berberian\SBreport.doc
