During rain and cold weather, crew members <br /> should wear waterproof outerwear and/or warm clothing to avoid <br /> hypothermia. The signs of hypothermia are sleepiness, numbness, <br /> difficulty in movement, failing eyesight, staggering, and <br /> unconsciousness. A person suffering from hypothermia should be <br /> taken to a warm place, cold or wet clothing should be removed and <br /> warm, dry clothes and/or blankets should be provides . Working in <br /> on hot, sunny days can result in dehydration, sunburn, and heat <br /> exhaustion. Loose, light weight, light colored <br /> clothing will help avoid these problems . However, shorts can not <br /> be worn during field activities . Frequent breaks and either <br /> water or another nonalcohol beverage should be taken. (Note <br /> hands and face should be washed prior to drinking. ) The signs of <br /> heat exhaustion include pale, clammy skin, profuse perspiration, <br /> cramps in the limbs or abdominal muscles, and extreme tiredness <br /> or weakness. A person suffering from heat exhaustion should be <br /> allowed to rest and be given liquids . <br /> 6 <br />
