Diane Hinson - 2 - 3 August 1989
Environmental Health Division
conclusions reached in the EA report regarding the probable source of the
hydrocarbon contamination, and, therefore, cannot be considered valid. Based
on the historical changes in depth to ground water documented in the EA
report, the contaminants detected in the present upgradient wells could have
originated from the discharges at the former Exxon station when the gradient
was oriented in a different direction.
We recommend that prior to implementing the proposed extraction system, tests
be conducted on subsurface soils to determine the percolation capacity of the
proposed infiltration trench. In conjunction with this investigation the
discharger should conduct additional investigations to determine the extent of
the ground water contamination emanating from the former tank excavation and
any other on-site areas where past discharges have occurred.
-
THOMAS D.
