Engineering, Science, and Technology for the above reference site and has the following comments.
It has been reported RW-3 and V-4 contain free phase petroleum hydrocarbon. Until Exxon has secured a
NPDES permit and active groundwater treatment initiated, passive mitigation measures must be taken to
reduce plume migration from the former tank field. Also the vertical limits of soil contamination in this
area has not been fully identified. The full extent of contamination must be characterized in order to
design a proper remediation system.
Due to decreasing water levels in the area, MW-8 and MW-10 are now dry. In order to monitor off-site
conditions, additional deeper monitoring wells must be installed in the areas of MW-8 and MW-10.
Pursuant to Chapter 16, Section 2652(d) of the "Underground Storage Tank Regulations" (California Code
of Regulations, Title 23), quarterly monitoring reports shall be submitted to PHS/EHD and the Central
Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board (CVRWQCB) until the investigation and cleanup of the site
is deemed adequate.
Should you need further information or clarification, contact Harlin Knoll, Senior REHS, of my staff at
(209) 468-3442.
Jogi Khanna, M .
